Award-winning figurative abstract artist, Tariq Mix, has been finding beauty and inspiration in black American culture for over two decades. He developed a love for fine art during his time at Howard University, and has nurtured his craft through the use of various mediums since 2001.

Taking composition influence from greats like Romare Bearden, storytelling cues from Jacob Lawrence, and bold linework shaped by the works of Picasso - Mix portrays the beauty in the chaos that can go hand in hand with blackness in America. His use of bold colors and strong lines reflect the nuances of black culture and identity through the lens of fashion and music.

Mix’s work can be found in the private collections of Tommy Mottola and Donald Byrd, along with various other private collectors. He hopes his work encourages viewers to embrace the storied black legacy that American identity was founded upon.
